Governors Island, New York
Residential / Community / Urban Design
Island Research Commons proposes a residential community on Governors Island designed in direct relationship to the emerging research campus nearby. The project provides housing for families, faculty, researchers, and students while extending the academic environment into a more domestic and community-oriented setting.

CAMPUS + COMMUNITY
The project responds to the sweeping curvature of the research campus while translating that geometry into a distinct residential typology. Linear residential volumes are stepped and arranged along curved circulation routes, landscaped courtyards, and communal decking.

A SHARED CENTER
A central courtyard forms the social heart of the development. Residential volumes step around this shared landscape, creating terraces, improving access to daylight, increasing visual privacy, and reducing the perceived scale of the development.
