Strata of Doyers reimagines how public space can be redistributed within one of Manhattan’s most historically layered and spatially constrained urban environments. Rather than replacing the existing fabric, the project introduces an additive architectural system extending both above and below Doyers Street.
BUILDING WITHOUT ERASING
The intervention is rooted in the rhythm and structure of the surrounding historic fabric. A lightweight elevated framework spans between neighboring buildings while maintaining the pedestrian activity, storefronts, and cultural life of the street below.
REDISTRIBUTING ACTIVITY
New elevated community space and a subterranean commercial network redistribute activity vertically, creating additional capacity without widening or fundamentally altering the historic street. Cultural, educational, wellness, commercial, and community spaces become an urban network woven into the existing neighborhood.
